วัตถุประสงค์
:
(1) Determine whether certain fruit or plant characteristics of liana species hinders foraging by arboreal animals other than gibbons.
(2) Determine if gibbons feed on lianas to the same extent as they feed on trees, and identify liana species that are either favored or important fallback foods for the gibbons.
(3) Compare genet spatial pattern for liana species consumed by gibbons, with (a) gibbon pathways during the period the liana species fruits, (b) the spatial pattern of gibbon defecations (distance from tree species used frequently for food or sleeping), (c) host trees (species and dbh).
For liana species selected for intensive study:
(4) Record frugivore species consuming fruit, fruit handling behavior and determine the proportion of the crop consumed by different species.
(5) Determine the range and frequency of dispersal distances achieved by different frugivores.
(6) Determine if dispersal away from the crown is critical for plant recruitment.
