วัตถุประสงค์
:
This study aims to investigate the effect of mating pheromones which are released from molting females on the expressions of IAG in the androgenic gland of male giant freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii, and their roles in driving the maturation of male morphotype and growth.
Specific objectives
1. To investigate the effect of the mating pheromones released from molting females on the expression of IAG in the male androgenic gland, and to prove whether the pheromone reception is via the short lateral antennules of males by bioassay, RT-PCR and q-PCR;
2. To investigate the temporal expression of the IAG in the androgenic glands, and the GIH and MIH in eyestalks of males being co-cultured with molting females using RT-PCR, immunohistochemistry, and cell proliferation assays; and
3. To compare the growth and maturation rates of small male (SM) and orange-claw (OC) males after being co-cultured with molting female prawns using bioassay and histology.
